With six points from three wins and one loss so far this season, the CIS No. 9 Mustangs men's volleyball team sits tied for second in the OUA after most recently toppling the OUA-leading York Lions last weekend.
Fourth-year outside hitter
Garret May, this week's Western Male Athlete of Week, was outstanding in both of the Mustangs games last weekend, recording 12 kills against Nipissing on Friday in the team's 3-0 victory, while adding another 22 in Saturday's impressive 3-1 win over York. May now moves up to fifth overall on the OUA men's volleyball leaderboard with 59 total kills and has averaged 3.94 points per set on the season so far.
Also contributing to the Mustangs undefeated weekend was
Phil James and
Justin Scapinello, who both join May in the top 10 on the leaderboard at ninth and tenth respectively. James counted 16 kills from just 23 sets over the two-game weekend to give him an impressive 68% kill percentage, while Scapinello recorded 13 points in three sets against Nipissing.
Rookie libero Matthew Silver continues to post strong performances in his first season with the Mustangs as he counted seven digs in the game against Nipissing before adding another 12 against York.
