The Western Mustangs men’s volleyball team closed off their 2012-2013 OUA regular season last weekend against the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday, claiming a five set victory, followed by a tough three set loss to the Guelph Gryphons on Sunday. The Mustangs hope to regain their winning streak this weekend with their first playoff game against the Ryerson Rams at home in Alumni Hall on Friday, February 15, at 7:00 p.m.
The Mustangs finish the 2012-2013 OUA regular season with a record of 13-5, putting them near the top of the conference in third place, just under McMaster and Waterloo.
Purple and white continues to be led by Garrett May with 288 kills in 63 games played, with a 5.15 points per game average, and a total 324 points.
OUA Quarter-final
Ryerson Rams- Friday, February 15 at 7:00 p.m.
The Ryerson Rams are on the road this weekend to begin the 2012-2013 OUA playoff season, where they will land in London to challenge the Western Mustangs in the first segment of the playoffs, the OUA quarter finals, which will take place in Alumni Hall. Finishing the regular season in sixth place, with a 7-11 OUA record, the Rams counted 27 games for and 38 against.
When the Rams met the Mustangs in October, Western took charge of Ryerson’s court, defeating them in straight sets 3-0. Most recently, the Rams rallied with the Mustangs on February 1, where Western dominated once again winning in four sets. The Ryerson Rams last challenged the Queen’s Gaels where they trumped their visitors at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in three straight sets (25-22, 25-15, 25-20), winning 3-0.
The Rams are led by Robert Wojcik, with 220kills, 256 points, and a 4.25 point per game average in 58 games played. This puts him in fourth place in the OUA regular season standings. Ryerson hopes to take charge of the court this weekend in effort to reverse the fates of their last two meetings with the Mustangs, and vie for a spot in the final four.
