Mustangs add second straight win of 2014 with victory over Laurier

Box Score WATERLOO, Ont. - The Western Mustangs men's basketball team continues to be undefeated in 2014 as they added an 81-69 win from the Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday afternoon in Laurier's Athletic Complex to boost their regular season record to 4-8.

Peter Scholtes put on a stellar performance while scoring 26 points for the purple and white, followed by Greg Morrow, who adds another 24 points on the night after his 28-point game against Guelph on Wednesday.

In the first half of the game the Mustangs were able to take control, shooting 52% from the floor with Quinn Henderson leading Western with 15 points on the half. Scholtes added another 13 points to give Western a 46-31 advantage heading into the second half.

The second half saw the Golden Hawks come out strong as they outscored the Mustangs 38-35, but Western was able to maintain their lead with Morrow going seven for 11 from the floor scoring and adding 16 points in the half to help in the 81-69 Mustangs victory.

Although the Western squad struggled to find their first win earlier in the season, the team has now won their last two games and will be looking to start a win streak.

The Mustangs will take a break until January 17 when they travel to Thunder Bay, Ontario to take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m.
