The Mustangs women's basketball team will try to pick up where they left off before the New Year as they head to Thunder Bay for a pair of weekend games against the Lakehead Thunderwolves. The Mustangs are currently in second in the OUA West division with a 10-2 regular season record, and another two wins against Lakehead could move the team back up to the first place position in the standings that they held for most of the first semester before their ten-game win streak ended in a 74-73 loss to Laurier last week.
Western has four players averaging double digits including
Katelyn Leddy and
Melissa Rondinelli, who have both averaged 11 points per game on the season,
Kelsey Wright with 10 points per game, and
Jenny Vaughan, who has averaged 24 points a game and is first in the OUA and second in the CIS for scoring.
Western vs. Lakehead - Friday, January 17 and Saturday, January 18 at 6 PM
The Lakehead Thunderwolves currently sit in sixth in the OUA West division standings with a 6-6 regular season record after their 87-59 win over Waterloo last week. The Lakehead squad will be looking to surpass their current .500 record as they prepare for this weekend's games.
The Mustangs will be focusing on CIS scoring leader Jylisa Williams, a Lakehead guard, who is averaging 28 points a game and shooting 57% from the field. Kelsey Bardsley and Ayse Kalkan have averaged 12 and 10 points per game, respectively, to aid in the Thunderwolves offense.
Game time for both nights is set for 6:00 p.m. at Lakehead's C.J. Sanders Fieldhouse.
