Women's Lacrosse

Western continues undefeated season with 18-4 win over McMaster

Western's women's lacrosse team continued their strong season with an 18-4 victory over McMaster on Saturday afternoon. The win maintains the Mustangs undefeated season and spot atop the OUA standings.

The Mustangs opened the scoring at the five-minute mark with a goal from Heather Pearson, who tallied three goals and an assist on the day.  The Mustangs took a 4-0 lead before McMaster took advantage of some timely drives to the net to close the gap to 4-2. However, with 4:36 left in the first half, Western broke out with six goals, 3 by Michelle Farrugia (4G), to close out the half up 10-2.

The second half was dominated by sophomore Megan Wilkins (5G) who drove for four goals in the second half and a game-high five goals. While Wilkins and Farrugia accounted for half the offense, Tawnie Johnson (3G,1A) and Heather Pearson (3G,1A) also had strong performances as each recorded a hat trick in the win. Rounding out the scoring were Mikaela Harrison, Amy Rawlings and Haley Liske with one goal apiece.  Becca Watson (2A), Sheehan Mulholland (3A), Fran Bonomi (1A) and Tenyka Snider (1A) provided the assists.

Head coach Dave Hastings noted that McMaster was very tough on loose balls but Western's draw control was quite good. "I think we still need to clean a few things up.  We are still working out some new offences but our transition game remains strong. Our goal is to get better and better, every day and every week."

Western will head to Toronto, next Sunday, October 19th at Varsity Stadium for their next matchup.
