TORONTO - The Western Mustangs women's lacrosse team maintained their undefeated season on Sunday, beating Brock 11-7 and UOIT 16-9 in a double-header at University of Toronto's Varsity Stadium.
Â
On Sunday morning, Western had a slow start against the undefeated Brock team due to an unusual amount of ball turnovers resulting in a quick three-goal lead for Brock. With ten minutes remaining in the first half, Western's
Tenyka Snider scored the first of 11 goals against Brock's solid goaltending.
Â
Western entered half time trailing 5-2 to the Badgers, but were able to regroup and pick up the tempo in the second half, starting with a game-changing goal by Haley Liske. A nine-goal run was led by offensive seniors Snider and
Michelle Farrugia to which Brock was unable to respond. Western's defense only allowed one goal in the second half, resulting in an 11-7 final.
Â
In Sunday afternoon's matchup, Western defeated the UOIT Ridgebacks 16-9, with Haley Liske leading the offence by notching four goals. Western's scoring was dominated by Snider, who recorded a hat trick, as well
Rebecca Watson,
Lauren Stewart, and
Sheehan Mulholland who netted two goals each. The Mustangs played strong second half, once again securing a victory.    Â
Â
"The energy level was a bit low today," said head coach Dave Hastings. "But the team was able to respond and play the way they can. It was a good win and we continue to learn with each outing."
Â
The Mustangs are back in action on Saturday, October 25, at University of Guelph. They will face the redemption-seeking Brock Badgers team at 9:45 a.m. and Trent Excalibur at 3:00 p.m.
