Western set to face RMC and Queen's in away game action

Coming off a thrilling five set season opener against McMaster on October 17, the Mustangs look to land another win when they travel to Kingston this weekend to face off against RMC on October 25, followed by a match against Queen's on October 26.

Western's rookie-heavy team has proven to be resilient after coming back from last week's two set deficit to knock off the then CIS No. 2 Marauders. Justin Scapinello led the way for the purple and white offence in the win, racking up 19 points on 17 kills and two service aces to lead all players in scoring as well as earn Western's Male Athlete of the Week award.

With momentum on their side from last week's big win the Mustangs now aim to add two more 'Ws' in the win column as they head into their home opener next weekend.

Western at RMC – Friday, October 24 at 6:00pm

After going winless last season the Paladins are looking to turn things around this year, although recent graduate Patrick Poulin leaves big shoes to fill after recording the fourth most digs in CIS last year. The Paladins started this year's OUA schedule with a three set loss to Waterloo last weekend and will look to topple the Mustangs for their first win of the year this Friday.

It's a new look roster for the Paladins this season as six new players join the team for 2014-15. Despite the influx of new players it was two veterans leading the RMC offence in their season opener as senior Logan Morris and sophomore Trevor Melcher led the team with six and five points respectively. Look for the Paladins to rely on their veterans this early in the season as the younger players begin to gain experience at the OUA level.

Western at Queen's – Saturday, October 25 at 8:00pm

Meanwhile, Queen's completed last season with a 9-11 record, with returning players Ivo Dramov and Mike Tomlinson respectively being ranked fourth in digs per set within the CIS, and fifth in CIS kills per set. With only four rookies added to the 2014-15 team, the Gaels look set to capitalize on the experience of returning players to move forward in the rankings.

Unlike the majority of the OUA the Gaels have yet to play a regular season game in 2014-15 with their regular season opener set for Friday night against Windsor. Despite their lack of regular season action the Gaels come into this weekend with some momentum as they won the Queen's Invitational last weekend, defeating Memorial, Montreal, and Toronto, dropping only one set as they closed out their exhibition schedule.
