Preview: Mustangs return home to host Marauders and Badgers

The Mustangs return to home court this week with hopes of extending their three-game winning streak after defeating the Algoma Thunderbirds in a double header in Sault Ste. Marie last week. This week, the team will be visited by the McMaster Marauders on Wednesday night and the Brock Badgers on Saturday night at Alumni Hall.

With the success of last week's games, the Mustangs move into first place in the OUA West Division standings with a 4-2 record, where they sit tied with the Windsor Lancers. The Lancers also have eight points, although they do have a game in hand on Western.

Greg Morrow tops the team in average scoring for the second consecutive week with 19.3 points per game, scoring an impressive 28 points against the Thunderbirds in their second game last week. Morrow also leads the team with six rebounds per game, with Tom Filgiano following with 4.8. The two players combined for 12 rebounds in their Algoma contests.

Captain Quinn Henderson sunk a combined 37 points against the Thunderbirds while averaging 32.3 minutes per game. Elliott Dooley was also solid, connecting from the perimeter in recent games and making 50 percent of his field goal attempts. He was also 2-2 in three-point shots in the first game against Algoma. Look out for Dooley around the arc as he continues to make plays and shoot well to help the Mustang offence.

After losing their first two games of the season, the Marauders started a four game winning streak and now sit in first place in the OUA Central Division standings with a record of 4-2.

Taylor Black leads the team with an average of 13 points per game, scoring 20 of the Marauders points in their most recent victory over the York Lions. Third-year Marauder Leon Alexander leads the team by sinking 63.4 percent in field goal attempts, and ranks second on the team with 12.4 points per game. Alexander also leads the team with the most assists and rebounds in the past two games helping lead their defence into a win over the York Lions and Brock Badgers.

Marauder guard Joe Rocca dropped a combined 36 points in the last two games in Marauder wins, proving that he's one of the scorers the Mustangs should look out for on the court.

Tip-off is at 8 p.m. and can be watched live at OUA.tv.

Saturday, November 29 - vs. Badgers at 8 p.m. - Watch at OUA.tv

After a disappointing season opener for losing their first two games, Brock won two of their three road games, placing them in a three-way tie for second place in the OUA Central Divison standings following the division leaders McMaster.

Johnell Simpson leads the team with 22 points per game, scoring an outstanding 33 points in their recent win against the Queen's Gaels. Teammate Zachary Angelini followed close behind in the game scoring 20 points. On defence this season, Matt Marshall has led the way with a team-high average 10.6 rebounds per game.

The Mustangs are going to need to control their fouls given, as the Badgers have sunk 78.9% of their free throws on the season. With the tough defence of Angelini and Simpson, the Mustangs need to work hard in the paint and prevent fouls to prevent the Badgers from getting to the free throw line, where nine players connected over 70% of their free throw attempts.

Tip-off is at 8 p.m. and can be watched live at OUA.tv.
