The Western Mustangs women's hockey team picked up a pair of wins on the road this weekend after downing their rivals, the Laurier Golden Hawks 3-2 on Saturday, before claiming their second win of the weekend over the Waterloo Warriors (3-0) on Sunday.
With the victories, the Mustangs enter week six with a record of 6-0-1, good for first place in the OUA standings.
Last weekend's action marked the second time that the Mustangs have faced-off against the Golden Hawks and the Warriors this season, having met up with the two teams in the first week of regular season action. In their first meeting of the season, the Golden Hawks beat the Mustangs 2-1 in penalty shots on the purple and white's home ice. After the defeat, the Mustangs were determined to prove themselves last weekend, and they did just that – claiming a 3-2 victory over the Golden Hawks.
When the Mustangs took on the Warriors earlier this season, the match was sent into overtime where Western came out on top with a 4-3 victory. With a win against the black and gold in week one, the Mustangs worked harder in last Sunday's contest to keep themselves out of overtime and shootout action, and they were able to do just that with a 3-0 shutout win.

With the two recent victories from last weekend's action, the Mustangs now hold a five-game winning streak which they will hope to continue heading into this Saturday's contest with the York Lions.
Western vs. York – Saturday, November 8 at 4:00 pmAfter playing the last four games on the road, the Mustangs bring the action back to their home ice at Thompson Arena this Saturday as they face-off against the York Lions.
The Lions head into this weekend's action coming off of a successful weekend on home ice where they downed the Guelph Gryphons 5-1 on Saturday before taking a 3-1 win over the Brock Badgers on Sunday. With the pair of wins, the Lions now hold a 5-3-0 record on the regular season.
York's Amy Locke has been a key component to the Lions' attacking unit this season: the Toronto, Ont., native has racked up a total of five goals, four of which came from last weekend's action.
In addition to Locke, fifth-year Lisa Strathopulos has been topping the OUA leaderboard with her impressive performances throughout the season so far. She leads the OUA in both assists and total points with eight and 11, respectively.
Between the posts, Lions goaltender Megan Lee has proven herself as a force to be reckoned with as the Orillia, Ont., native sits atop the OUA in total saves with 219.
With Strathopulos and Locke on offence and Lee holding the Lion's goal line, the Mustangs will have to be sharp in all areas of the ice in Saturday's contest if they hope to extend their winning streak to another game.
