Lancers down Mustangs 73-58 in Windsor

Box Score WINDSOR, Ont. – As the regular season enters its final week the Western Mustangs men's basketball team hit the road on Tuesday night, falling to the Windsor Lancers 73-58 at the St. Denis Centre.

The loss gives the Mustangs an 8-12 record and leaves them in fourth place in the OUA West, two points behind the Laurier Golden Hawks. Windsor now moves to 15-5 on the season and have already locked up second place in the West, earning them a first round playoff bye.

The Windsor defence contained Western to 38% shooting from the field while the host Lancers converted 39% of their field goal attempts. Leading the Mustangs scoring efforts were Eric McDonald and Greg Morrow with 12 and 11 points respectively while Enrico Diloreto topped the Lancers score sheet with 12 points of his own with both Rotimi Osuntola Jr. and Mike Rocca scoring 10 points each.

The Mustangs started the game off on a positive note and found their largest lead in the game with Quinn Henderson hitting a three point shot with just under two minutes left in the first quarter to put them up 16-7.  It was in the second quarter that Windsor finally picked up the pace and contained the Mustangs to 16 points and after a series of turnovers turned into baskets for the home side the Lancers ended the half on top 38-32.

The Lancers carried the momentum over into the second half going on a 19-6 run in the first eight minutes of the third quarter. Morrow would break the run with a three at 1:50 but Windsor would find themselves with an 18 point lead to go into the last quarter of the game. In the fourth quarter, Western displayed confidence in their defensive abilities holding London native Enrico Dileretto to only two points and eventually winning the quarter 17-14 however it wasn't enough as the Lancers walked away with a 73-58 victory.

Western won't have much time to rest before its next game as they head to St. Catharines on Wednesday night for an 8:00 p.m. matchup against the Brock Badgers at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
