After missing the playoffs for the past two years the Mustangs battled back from a slow first half this season to earn a quarterfinal berth with a fifth-place regular season finish in the OUA West Division. The purple and white will travel to Thunder Bay on Wednesday to face the Lakehead Thunderwolves (9-13) in an OUA West Quarterfinal as they begin their quest to the OUA championship.
The Mustangs have already faced the Thunderwolves twice this season, coming out victorious in both contests at Lakehead's CJ Sanders Fieldhouse as they took the first game by just one point but returned to the court the next night to take a commanding 73-47 win.
Peter Scholtes led the team over the two-game weekend as he recorded a total of 36 points, including scoring his 1,000th career point.
Lakehead enters Wednesday's contest on a bit of a roll, winning their last three regular season contests to finish just ahead of the Mustangs in the OUA West standings. The Thunderwolves are led by the duo of guards Henry Tan and Dwayne Harvey who lead the team in scoring with 12.9 and 12.8 points-per-game respectively. Just behind Tan and Harvey on the scoresheet is senior forward Anthony McIntosh who averages 9.9 points a game who also ranks third on the team with 100 rebounds this season.
Leading the Mustangs attack will be forward
Greg Morrow who finshed the regular season with a team-high 16.6 points-per-game, good for 12th among all OUA players. The London native has also excelled on the glass this season, racking up 7.6 rebounds per game, the eighth-most in Ontario. Just behind Morrow in both points scored and rebounding is Scholtes, as the fourth-year forward averaged 14 points and 6.2 rebounds per game in 2013-14.
The winner of Wednesday's matchup will advance to face either Windsor (16-6) or McMaster (18-4) in the OUA West Semi-Finals on Saturday with the winner advancing to the OUA Wilson Cup beginning on February 28 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.
