Preview: Western to host Toronto and Ryerson in weekend matchups

Getting back into the swing of regular season matches, the Mustangs host Toronto and Ryerson on back-to-back nights with the hopes of returning to their earlier success.
 
Sitting in seventh place within the OUA with a 6-6 record, the Mustangs average 11.44 kills per set, 2.09 blocks per set, and 7.71 digs per set.
 
Veteran Justin Scapinello tops the purple and white score sheet while also representing Western on the CIS leaderboard, sitting in third for points per set with an average of 5.0 and second in kills per set, averaging 4.35. The third-year Mustang also sits in eighth place in total service aces, with a total of 21 for this season.
 
Mike Choja comes in as the second point leader for the Mustangs, averaging 2.8 points per set, while recently moving into the first place spot within the CIS for solo blocks with a total of 28.

For their second regular season match against Toronto, the Mustangs will look to utilize their past experience with the Varsity Blues to help them repeat their win in late November.
 
Currently in tenth place in the OUA with a 3-10 record and struggling to break out of a three match losing streak, the Varsity Blues are looking for a win to help them turn their season around. As a team, the Blues average 11.18 kills per set, 1.59 blocks per set, and 10.24 digs per set.
 
While Jake Dysselhof leads the Varsity Blues in points per set (3.2), three other Blues represent the team on the CIS leaderboard. Michael Denton sits in ninth place for assists per set (9.6), with freshman Alex Farris also holding down ninth place in digs per set (2.44). Nathanial Virgo, a fourth year middle, earned the highest ranking from a Varsity Blue with fifth place in solo blocks (20).

Facing off for the second time in the regular season, the Mustangs approach their match with Ryerson better prepared for what the OUA's second-place team will bring. The Rams, currently holding a 9-3 record, head into the weekend on a three-game winning streak.
 
As a team, the Rams average 11.91 kills per set, 2.50 blocks per set, and 8.13 digs per set. Individually, Ryerson's team is equally as strong with three players on the CIS leaderboard. Leading the Rams in points is Lucas Coleman, who averages 4.4 points per set. Coleman also ranks in eleventh within Canada for kills per set (3.72). Fourth year Ram Marc Reardon sits in second for solo blocks (27), while Uchenna Ofoha holds the fourth place position with 23.
