Preview: Western ventures to Guelph and Waterloo for weekend games

Following last week's loss to the OUA's second place team, the Western Mustangs are hoping to secure two wins in the upcoming matches to push them higher up in the OUA rankings. Currently holding down seventh place, the purple and white record sits at 7-7 headed into the weekend.
 
The Mustangs have proven to be fierce competitors at the net, with a team average of 11.27 kills per set, and 2.10 blocks per set. Keeping up with competitive play in the backcourt, the team averages 7.55 digs per set.
 
Leading the Mustang offense is Justin Scapinello, who not only tops Western's score sheet, but also is a leader within the CIS. The third year Mustang sits in third place for points per set (4.9), fourth place in kills per set (4.25), fifth in service aces (25), while holding down seventh place in both service aces per set (.45), and total points (277).
 
Also representing Western on the leaderboard is 6'7 starting middle Mike Choja, who holds down second place in solo blocks (29).

Tied for fifth place within the OUA with an 8-6 record, Guelph will be using Friday's match against Western to secure a win that could put them in sole possession of fifth place and end the two match losing streak.
 
Together, the Gryphons average 10.64 kills per set, with 2.51 blocks. Led by libero Eric Wagner, the team also averages 9.29 digs per set.
 
Patrick Strzalkowski leads the team in points per set (3.5), while also holding down eighth place in the CIS in service aces per set (.44). Joining Strzalkowski on the leaderboard are Marc Wilson, who sits in fourth place for hitting percentage (.425), Zachary Newman, currently tenth in service aces per set (.42), and Eric Wagner, who is holding down tenth place in digs per set (2.42).
 
Friday's match is set to begin at 8pm in Guelph's W.F. Mitchell Athletic Center, with online streaming available at OUA.tv.

Sitting at third place in the OUA and holding 10-5 regular season record, the Waterloo Warriors are prepared to extend their current two game winning streak and challenge the Mustangs.
 
Averaging 11.96 kills per set, and 2.98 blocks per set as a team, Waterloo has continually proven to be strong players at the net. However, the Warriors are also rigorous with their defence, averaging 11.65 digs per set.
 
Senior Zachary Doherty leads the Warriors in points, averaging 3.9 per set. Jordan Dyck follows closely behind with 3.6 points per set, while sitting in ninth place within the CIS for solo blocks (19) and third in hitting percentage (.429).
 
Joining Dyck on the leaderboards are Erich Woolley, who holds down second place for digs per set (3.31), and Jordan McConkey, who ranks second in hitting percentage (.468).
