Mustangs move into second place in OUA West Division with 4-0 win over Warriors

WATERLOO, Ont. – Amanda Boyle helped the Mustangs move into second place in the OUA West Division with a hat trick on Friday afternoon, allowing the Mustangs to defeat the Waterloo Warriors 4-0 at Warrior Field.

After playing 13 games, Western has a 9-1-3 record with 27 points, while the Warriors sit in fifth place in the OUA West Division after playing 12 games with a 4-7-1 record and 12 points.

Coming off their first loss of the year last week against the Laurier Golden Hawks, Western was eager to hit the field to start a new streak.

In the first half Western took charge of the play, keeping the ball in their opponent's end. Boyle found the back of the net for the first time at the 26-minute mark of the game with her second goal coming just three minutes later.

The purple and white started the second half with a two goal lead, and they did not let up. Boyle scored her third goal 18 minutes into the second half, giving her 11 on the season and moving her into a tie for second place on the CIS leaderboard. Following Boyle's hat trick fellow striker Lauren Winquist scored the fourth and final goal of the game with just over five minutes left to give Western the 4-0 victory.

Not to be outdone by their efforts on offence, the Mustangs defence remained equally strong as Tori Edgar did not see a single shot on net, giving her six shutouts on the year.

Western is set to play their third-last game of the season on Wednesday, October 14 against the fourth-place Guelph Gryphons on the road at 8:15 p.m.
