Preview: Mustangs back in action against Brock and Laurier

London, Ont. - After a weekend off, the Western Mustangs women's hockey team will return to action this weekend with a pair of games against the Brock Badgers and Laurier Golden Hawks on Saturday and Sunday respectively. The purple and white will head down the 403 to St. Catharines for a 4:15 p.m. start against the Badgers before returning home on Sunday to host Laurier in the Mustangs first contest at Thompson Arena since October 25.

It's been a bit of an up and down season for the defending national champs, but they can look to start building a winning streak after coming off a 4-0 win at Laruentian in their last game.

Currently at 4-3-0-0, the Mustangs are led in scoring by Kendra Broad and Brittany Clapham, with five points so far this season. Goaltender Kelly Campbell has posted 1.35 goals against average and a .948 save percentage, however she has lacked goal scoring support in her losses as the Mustangs have been shut out in all three of their defeats.

Western at Brock – Saturday November 14 at 4:15 p.m.

Brock is 2-1-5-0 to start the season, but are going into Saturday's game coming directly off a 3-0 win over York.

The Brock offence has struggled slightly to begin the year, only scoring 10 goals in eight games while averaging 22 shots per outing. Accordingly, Brock's leading scorer, Laura Neu, has four points on the year.

Brock goalies Stephanie Loukes and Jensen Murphy have three and five starts respectively, through Loukes' has better numbers in her limited starts with her 1.01 GAA topping Murphy's 1.60.

Western vs. Laurier – Sunday November 15 at 4 p.m. – Watch live at OUA.tv

Laurier is 4-0-2-1 on the year, and are currently on a two-game losing streak, falling to Toronto and York.

Forward Jessie Hurrel is one of the most dynamic forwards in the OUA, scoring eight points in seven games, good for first place on the Golden Hawks and tying her for second among all OUA players.

Starting goalie Lauren Webber has started six games and has a 1.21 GAA and a .947 save percentage, allowing only seven goals in those six games.

The Mustangs will be looking to pick up two wins and build the winning streak to three games this weekend. Fans can catch Sunday's game at Thompson Arena or live on OUA.tv. Puck drop is scheduled for 4 p.m.
