THUNDER BAY, Ont – A 21-point fourth quarter helped lift the Lakehead Thunderwolves over the Western Mustangs by a 67-58 score on Saturday night at the Thunderdome.

The Mustangs record now moves to 11-7, keeping them in second place of the OUA West Division Standings. The Thunderwolves record moves to 10-7 keeping them right behind the McMaster Marauders in second place in the OUA Central Division Standings.

Greg Morrow topped the purple and white scoreboard with 17 points, followed by
Tom Filgiano and
George Johnson who followed close behind with 14 and 12 points respectively. Thunderwolves player Anthony McIntosh led all players with 18 points while teammate Alex Robichaud added 10.

The Mustangs came out the gate with fierce defence grabbing the Thunderwolves missed shots to take the lead midway through the first quarter, eventually ending the frame with a 17-10 advantage.

The Thunderwolves caught on to the 'Stangs forceful defence and commenced the second frame as a challenging force for their opponents going on an early 7-0 run to tie the game at 17. Keeping score tight for the majority of the frame, the Mustangs were able to take the lead once again with a shot from
George Johnson inside the paint and eventually increased their lead to seven. The Thunderwolves determination to keep it tight ended the first half with a score of 29-28 in favour of the purple and white.

The third quarter proved to be a back and forth affair, with both sides changing tactics to match their opponent's strategies as the score stayed within one possession. The Thunderwolves were able to outshoot the Mustangs 18-16 in the third and head into the final quarter with a 46-45 lead.

Lakehead took control of the game in the opening four minutes of the fourth, going on an 11-2 run to put the Mustangs behind. Hungry for the win, the Thunderwolves eventually increased their lead to 12 points, before walking away with a 67-58 victory.
