MBB Game Stats vs Guelph

Men's Basketball By Liana Timbol

Preview: Western back in action at Guelph

The Mustangs are back in action this weekend on the road against the Guelph Gryphons, returning with hopes of a victory after facing back to back losses to CIS No.1 Ottawa Gee-Gees and CIS. No 2 Carleton Ravens in November.

Western finished their first seven games with a record of 3-4, finding their victories against the Waterloo Warriors, Windsor Lancers, and Toronto Varsity Blues.

In his fifth year as a Mustang, Greg Morrow tops the team with 22.7 points per game, ranking him seventh in the CIS for shooting. He scored a season high 32 points in Western's November 7 contest against the Golden Hawks, and has continuously played a key role in Mustang shooting and ball control.

Anthony Spiridis and Peter Scholtes follow Morrow in scoring with 12.4 and 11.9 points per game, respectively. The trio have played a key part in the Mustangs' starting lineup, getting the purple and white on the board early in the game and setting up plays in the paint.

Morrow teams up with Tom Filgiano to top the Mustang ball control charts with 6.7 and 6.1 rebounds per game. Filgiano has led the defence on a number of contests, recording eight off the glass in three games this season. He also has 1.4 steals and 2.3 assists per game.

The team has been successful at the free throw line, shooting 74.6%, as well as in field goals, scoring a successful 41.9%. Yet, their luck from beyond the arc isn't as high, as they've only hit 23.8% of their three-point shots.

The Gryphons started their season with a record of 2-5, grabbing their victories against the Lakehead Thunderwolves and the Nipissing Lakers. They ended the 2015 portion of their schedule with a 99-77 loss to the McMaster Marauders and sit in fourth place of the OUA Central Division.

Two players have emerged atop the Gryphon leaderboard, as Daniel Dooley leads the way with 12.6 points per game and Jonathan Wallace follows with 11.1 of his own. Dooley has managed double digits in all but two games this season, scoring 20 in their contest against Laurentian.

Kingsley D'Silva and Ahmed Haroon lead the Gryphon defence with 5.1 rebounds per game, with Drew Walford helping out with 2 steals a game. The team hits a 36.5 percentage in field goals, 29.6% in three points, and find their success at the line with 74.6% success.
