The Mustangs are just one win into the regular season, but they're already hungry for more. Thursday will give them their next opportunity as they head to Windsor for the second purple and white game of the season, and the Lancers' season opener.
Â
In Western's opening game, third-year forward
Amanda Pereira emerged as one of the primary offensive forces. The Kinesiology student netted a goal early in the second period, while assisting on the other two purple and white goals.
Â
Windsor will also be relying on veteran talent as their top three point generators from last season are all back on the roster. Shawna Lesperance, Erinn Noseworthy, and Krystin Lawrence filled out the top three positions on the OUA leaderboard, while Lesperance also recorded the highest number of goals, while Noseworthy and Lawrence were top two for assists. Â
Â
Captain
Emma Pearson and assistant captain
Brianna Iazzolino will be on hand to help slow down the high-powered offence from the blue line, providing a little extra coverage for the Mustangs netminders.
Katie Jacobs was in the crease for the season-opening win last week, making 20 saves in 62 minutes of play, and allowing only two goals in the overtime victory.
Â
For the Lancers, Ingrid Sandven is the most likely choice to start between the pipes. The 5-7 Communications student is in her fourth year with the team, starting in 16 games last season. She holds a .895 save percentage, with a 3.10 goals-against average. However, the game may also see the CIS debuts of Molly Jenkins or Morgan Farrow, both of whom joined the team for the 2016-17 season.
Â
Windsor and Western have already met once this year in exhibition season, with the Lancers narrowly edging ahead for a 3-2 victory. The Mustangs will be trying to flip the script as they look to spoil Windsor's season opener, with the game scheduled for 7:30 p.m on Thursday at the South Windsor Arena.
