Game Recap: Men's Hockey | | By Myles Ditcher

Lancers hand Mustangs second loss of the season

WINDSOR, Ont. – A goal from Sean Callaghan in the second period would be the only purple and white marker of the night, with the Lancers skating away with a 4-1 victory for their third straight win.

With the loss, the Mustangs hold a 3-2 record, while Windsor moves to 4-2.

The first period saw Tyson Ness score for the Lancers after beating defenceman Jed Rusk to gain a break, sliding the puck past rookie goaltender Luke Peresinni.

The Lancers continued to pressure Western in the second period. Todd Ratchford struck midway through the period for Windsor on a wrist shot that beat Peresinni glove-side.

Western managed to answer with a goal of their own, courtesy of Sean Callaghan, late in the period to climb to within one. Rylan Bechtel and Jonathan Laser picked up the assists on the goal.

However, Windsor would quickly respond to regain their two goal lead as Justice Dundas tallied with under two minutes remaining in the period.

Western pressed hard in the third period but Windsor goalie Blake Richard kept the purple and white offence at bay. A power play only further tipped momentum in favour of the Lancers, with Dylan Seguin recording the fourth Lancer goal of the evening.

The Mustangs were outshot 47-35 by the end of the game, with Peressini recording a .915 save percentage. Also contributing to the loss was the ten penalties Western racked up throughout the game. Nine minor penalties and one 10-minute misconduct gave the Lancers several one-man advantages, with two ending in goals.

Western is back on the ice next Friday, October 28 for a rematch of their season opening loss to Guelph. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
