MHKY 2015 vs York

Men's Hockey By Myles Dichter

Mustangs shut out by Lions on Saturday night

Box Score TORONTO – Two goals from Bryce Milson helped the York Lions defeat the Western Mustangs by a 5-0 score at Canlan Ice Sports on Saturday night.

Milson was one of four Lions to find the back of the net on Saturday, with Steven Janes, Shayne Rover, and Kyle Campbell each recording a goal as well.

The first 30 minutes of the game were played pretty evenly, as each side traded chances. Only York could convert though, when Steven Janes beat goaltender Greg Dodds late in the first period.

York began to take over the game in the second half of the next frame. First, Milson extended the Lions lead to two with a little under six left in the period. Just a few minutes later, York captain Shayne Rover pounced all over a puck sitting in the crease after a rebound and deposited it into the back of the net for a powerplay marker.

The Lions added two more in the third period with Campbell scoring five minutes in, and Milson added his second just one minute later.

Western were unable to solve York goalie Mack Shields, who was steady and reliable throughout the game in recording the shutout. Shields continued his dominant season and made plenty of spectacular saves, including a few at the beginning of the final frame to prevent Western from closing the gap.

The Mustangs' next game takes place at Thompson Arena on Thursday at 7:00 P.M. against Carleton, with all the action broadcast live on OUA.tv
