KINGSTON, Ont. – The Mustangs made quick work of the Paladins Friday evening, needing only three short sets (25-8, 25-15, 25-17) to secure the win.
With the win Western holds a 3-1 record to sit second in the OUA West, tied with Guelph. RMC's 1-3 record is good for fourth in the East, with the Paladins sharing the spot with Toronto.
Gavin Taylor's 10 points led all athletes on both sides of the court, with nine kills and a service ace on the books.
Bryn Ramsay followed with 8.5 points, while
Chris Newcombe added eight to the purple and white total.
Tyler Reyno and Blake McClelland led the Paladins in points, each recording four.
RMC slowly adjusted to the Mustangs level of play throughout the night, gradually narrowing the point-difference from set to set. The first frame saw the biggest purple and white margin of victory at 17 points, while the difference was reduced to eight by the third and final set.
All three sets ended relatively quickly, with the Paladins never recording more than 17 points.
The Mustangs are back on the court tomorrow night, when they look to best the Queen's Gaels. Last season saw the Gaels sweep Western in straight sets in both of their regular season contests, but this year has seen a much more resilient and determined Western roster. Game time is set for 8 p.m., with fans able to catch all the action
