Mustangs head to Thunder Bay to take on Lakehead

The Western mustangs will head on the road in search of their first win of the regular season this weekend, as they head to Thunder Bay to take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves

The Mustangs currently sit in fifth place of the OUA West Division Standings with a 0-3 record after taking two losses on the road last weekend against Laurentian and Nipissing.

In his first year as a Mustang, Eriq Jenkins leads the team in scoring over their first three games, recording an average of 16 points, while also ranking second on the team with 4.7 rebounds per game. Omar Shiddo, also in his first year with the Mustangs, is next up on Western's scoring leaderboard, contributing an average of 13 points per contest.

The newest members of the roster aren't the only ones making an impact, as third-year Jedson Tavernier has recording 10.3 points per game and leads the team with an average of 5.7 rebounds per games. Cam Morris follows with 10.0 points per game recording 15 points in the first two games of the season.

Western at Lakehead - Friday, November 18 at 8:00p.m.

Western will square off with the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Friday night, a team that occupies third place in the OUA Central Division standings with a 1-2 record. The Thunderwolves enter the game coming off of back-to-back losses to McMaster, with their one win coming in their season opener against the Algoma Thunderbirds.

Veteran player Bacarius Dinkins tops the Thunderwolves with 18.7 points per game, recording 20 points in their victory against Algoma and 18 points in each of their last two games. Omr Menace follows with 14.7 points per game and Henry Tan with 11.7.

Early on in the season, the Thunderwolves have developed into the top rebounding team in the OUA, leading the conference with an average of 45 rebounds per game. Not only does Dinkins top the points leaderboard for Lakehead, but he does the same on the glass with 12.3 rebounds per game, followed by forward Holelsky Theodore with 10 and Nick Burke with 7

The Thunderwolves shooting success is lower to that of the Mustangs with a 33.5% success rate in field goals and 21.4% from the perimeter. Western will need to limit the Thunderwolves success underneath the basket in order to prevent them from turning any missed shots into second chance points on Friday night.
