Western looks to snap out of a three game slide against a tough slate this weekend as they hit the road to face the UOIT Ridgebacks and Queen's Gaels.
Â
Last Thursday, the Mustangs fell 4-1 to a Carleton team that has come on strong the past couple years. A Ravens goal with five seconds left in the second period zapped any momentum the Mustangs had after
Rob Polesello scored a minute earlier to bring Western within one.
Â
The following night the Mustangs again failed to produce much offense, and despite outshooting RMC 45-25, lost 2-1 in overtime.
Jed Rusk scored the lone goal.
Â
Western now sits 7th in the OUA's West Division. The team has only scored 20 goals through nine games this season, but stellar goaltending from
Greg Dodds and Lucas Peresinni has kept them afloat. Each goalie owns a .917 save percentage on the season.
Â
The Mustangs have both scored and allowed the second fewest goals in their division.

Â
UOIT has mustered a blistering start to their campaign, holding an 8-2 record through 10 games, good for first in the East division.
Â
Fortunately for the Mustangs, that record may be deceiving. The Ridgebacks have recorded three of their wins in overtime and are coming off a 7-2 blowout loss to Lakehead last Saturday.
Â
Western will need to find a way to score some goals against Ridgeback goalie Tyson Teichmann in order to improve their own record. Teichmann ranks top 5 in the league with a 2.23 GAA and .929 save percentage.
Â
Mustangs centre Trent Ouellete has seen a number of outstanding chances the past few games, and will be integral to the future success of the purple and white if he's able to find the back of the net.

Â
Another tough test will be awaiting the Mustangs Saturday night as they face off with Queen's in Kingston. The Gaels place second in the East division, just one point behind UOIT.
Â
The Gaels should be coming in hot having won both ends of a back to back against Windsor last weekend.
Â
Forwards Eric Ming and Slater Doggett have lit up the scoreboard for the Gaels. Ming leads the league with nine goals and Doggett has tallied 8 assists and 13 points.
Â
Again, it will be essential for Western to find their attack as Queen's has allowed just 23 goals through 10 games on the season.
