KINGSTON, Ont. – A career-high 17 points from
Evan Cranshaw helped lead the Western Mustangs to a straight sets (25-20, 25-16, 25-12) victory over the RMC Paladins on Sunday afternoon.
Western now moves to 10-8 on the year, keeping them tied for fifth with Waterloo. Both teams have two games remaining on their schedule, with the Mustangs set to take on the third and fourth place Rams and Varsity Blues, while the Warriors will face the seventh and ninth place Lions and Gryphons.
Cranshaw's career milestone came off of 13 kills, three solo blocks, and one ace.
Bryn Ramsay wasn't far behind with 14 points resulting from 10 kills, two assisted blocks, and three aces.
Nathan Phelps led the purple and white with 10 digs, a career-high for the freshman.
Adam Lupton and Dale Towe provided the majority of the offence for the Paladins, with 13 and 11 points respectively. Blake McClelland led RMC's defensive efforts with 14 digs.
The first set of Sunday's contest provided to be the tightest with Western taking a 25-20 win. The Mustangs prodceed to pick up the pace in the next two sets, coming out on top 25-16 in the second, and with an even more dominant 25-12 score to take the third set and the match.
Western will now prepare for the final two games of the regular season against Toronto and Ryerson on February 19 and 20. Saturday's contest with Ryerson will be shown live on OUA.tv
