Four games are left in Western's season and three of those will be played within the next five days. The Mustangs visit the Varsity Blues on Friday and welcome Windsor on Saturday before heading back down the 401 to face Ryerson at the old Maple Leaf Gardens on Tuesday.
Â
The purple and white had their five-game win streak snapped last weekend, losing to York in the battle of the top teams in the OUA West. It was just the second loss of the New Year for the Mustangs, who are two points above Guelph for second place in the Division.
Â
The big difference in the game against the Lions was their goaltender, Chris Perugini. He made 40 saves—many of them in tight—to come away with his 13th win of the season. York managed just 22 shots on the night, with
Peter Delmas making 19 saves. Delmas deserved a much better fate after making some key saves early in the game.
Â
Western's offence is ranked fourth in the league with 3.75 goals per game and are still led in scoring by a player that's been absent the last few games in
Matt Marantz. Rookie
Spenser Cobbold and veteran
Shaun Furlong have helped fill in for his offence, each putting together five-game point streaks. Cobbold has five points and Furlong seven during that time.
Â
Sophomores
Cody Brown and
Trevor Warnaar both found the net over the weekend. Warnaar now has thirteen points in 19 games this season while Brown has four points in just six games since the New Year.

Western at Toronto – Friday, February 5 at 7:30 p.m. – Listen live on OUA.tv Â
Just as they were the last time the two teams faced off on January 21, Toronto is in the final playoff spot in the OUA West Division. Western got the better of the Varsity Blues in their earlier meeting, putting together a 3-2 victory at Thompson Arena.
Â
Toronto has won both of their games since then, dropping Guelph and Windsor back-to-back. They'll be looking to get on their first three-game streak of the season when they welcome the Mustangs on Friday. Andrew Hunt has gotten the majority of starts in net, compiling a .930 save percentage to go with six wins, while Christian Finch leads the team with 28 points.
Â
Christian Finch, Patrick Marsh, and Matt Campagna are all firing at a point-per-game pace for the Varsity Blues. Finch leads the pack with 28 points (8-20-28), followed by Marsh (13-12-25), and Campagna (8-16-24). The Varsity Blues don't get much offence from the defence, as only Charlie Connell has put up double digits in points (5-5-10).

Western vs Windsor – Saturday, February 6 at 4:00 p.m. – Watch live on OUA.tv Â
On paper, Windsor doesn't look like Western's worst nightmare. They're no longer the team directly behind the Mustangs for second place in the OUA—that distinction goes to Guelph. They shoot a lot and score at the fifth-best rate in the league (3.56), yet Western has shown that they can handle high-flying teams like McGill.
Â
Still, the Lancers may have given Western their toughest test of the season in December. The Mustangs have lost just two games this season by more than one goal—once against the OUA-leading UQTR Patriotes and the other against Windsor. Last year, Windsor was the only team to finish ahead of the Mustangs in the West Division, picking up six more points.
Â
Justice Dundas leads the team with 27 points (12-15-27), followed by Eric Noel (10-14-24) and Dylan Denomme (7-16-23). They have two defencemen scoring in double digits in Steve Anthony (2-13-15) and Kenny Bradford (2-12-14). Blake Richard has shouldered the load in net for Windsor, registering a .923 save percentage and eight wins in 14 starts.Â
