The Mustangs will seek their first win of 2017 this weekend as they take on Ryerson and Brock in back-to-back games at Thompson Arena.
Â
Last Friday, the Mustangs fell behind three goals early to York, and were never able to recover in a 4-2 loss.
Â
Despite being outshot 44-22, Western maintained good offensive zone time in the latter 40 minutes and hung tough with a strong Lions squad. The Mustangs now need to focus on turning that zone time into scoring chances.
Â
Luke Karaim and
Rob Polesello scored the goals for Western in that game; not coincidentally, they lead the team with seven and six goals, respectively. Still, Western ranks 17
th in the OUA with 43 goals and will need its scoring depth to improve over the second half of the season.

Â
Ryerson sits just one point behind York for second in the West Division, despite having played two less games.
Â
The Rams are powered by their offence, which averages just under four goals per games and sends more than 35 shots per game at opposing netminders. Senior forward Michael Fine leads the team with 19 point, and six other players are in double digits.
Â
From Nov 5 to Dec 3, Ryerson won eight straight games, including a dominant 5-2 victory over Western. The Rams lost their first two games of 2017 by a combined score of 12-4, so they will be desperate to get back into the win column this Friday.

Â
The following night, Brock will enter Thompson Arena after starting off their week on Thursday night against the Rams in Toronto. The Badgers head into this week's games with momentum as they're riding a three-game winning streak with one win over Carleton to close out 2016 before taking a pair of games from Lakehead in Thunder Bay last weekend.
Â
The Badgers have been a confounding team so far this season. They finished up a six game winning streak against a tough Concordia team on Nov 11, and immediately gave it all back with a six game losing streak, before winning their next three contests.
Â
Despite ranking fourth in the division with 21 points, the Badgers have been outscored by 10 goals on the season, and lost 4-3 to Western in their second game of the season.
Â
Mostly, Brock relies on star goaltender Clint Windsor. Windsor ranks first in the OUA with a .952 save percentage, a full 16 percentage points better than second place, and has an 8-0 record on the year.Â
