Western aims to avenge first half loss to Toronto

With the season beginning to wind down, every game starts to take on more importance, and Western's tilt at Toronto on Saturday night is no exception.

Last week, the Mustangs dropped two consecutive home games to Ryerson and Brock, keeping the Mustangs in ninth in the OUA West and three points out of the division's final playoff spot.

Eight games remain on the Mustangs schedule, and with only two of those coming inside the friendly confines of Thompson Arena, Western will look to begin the trend of picking up points away from home this weekend when they take on the Varsity Blues.

Key to that effort will be Luke Karaim and Rob Polesello, as they continue to pace the Mustangs offensively, having recorded seven goals each and 12 and 13 points respectively.

Toronto has struggled this season to the tune of a 2-17-2 record. However, one of those two wins was a 7-3 win over Western in November.

The Mustangs will look to avenge that loss by exploiting Toronto's goalies, who have posted a league worst 4.21 goals against average and .876 save percentage.

One area of concern for Western could be the penalty kill, which while solid at 82.1%, has spent too much time on the ice. Toronto's Aidan Wallace ranks second in the league in powerplay goals with seven and could make the Mustangs pay if they take too many trips to the penalty box on Saturday night.

As the schedule winds down Saturday's matchup is a crucial one for the Mustangs, as two points against the Varsity Blues could be key in earning a spot in the post-season.
