ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – The Mustangs unquestionably bounced back from their Saturday afternoon loss to McMaster, sweeping the Badgers in three quick sets (25-17, 25-20, 25-13) on Sunday at the Bob Davis Gym.
With the win, the Mustangs record moves to 10-1 and remain on top of the OUA West, while Brock sits at 3-7 and in fifth place.
Kelsey Veltman topped the scoresheet with 11.5 points, but rookie
Melissa Langegger was right behind her with 10.5. Abby Jenkins' nine points led the Badgers, followed by Maddie Brown's 6.5.
The first set saw the Mustangs pound out a 25-17 win, while the second set ended in favour of the Mustangs by a five-point margin. However, it wasn't until the final set of the match that the Mustangs were in peak form on route to a 25-13 set win.
Only two attacks failed to result in an immediate point, allowing the Mustangs to rack up a .867 hitting percentage in the final set. As a point of comparison, the same set saw Brock record an equal number of attempts, but only manage to scrape together four kills with a .133 percentage.
The Mustangs will be back on the court next weekend when they return to Alumni Hall for a rematch against the Badgers. Game time is set for 12 p.m., with fans able to catch all the action live on OUA.tv.
