Day Two Recap

KITCHENER, Ont. – The Western Mustangs quest for an eighth consecutive provincial title ran into one opponent that they couldn't topple on Sunday: Mother Nature.

Heavy rain and wind forced the finals at the OIWFA Provincial Championship between the Mustangs and Laurier Golden Hawks to be suspended in the bottom of the fifth inning with the score tied at 0-0.

With the field becoming unplayable the game has been suspended and an attempt will be made to complete the game at a later date.

The final was Western's second game of the day, after the Mustangs earned a spot in the final with an 8-0 win over Ottawa in the semifinals.

Sara Contini pitched a gem against Ottawa, throwing a no-hitter with only one walk allowed and striking out nine batters. Briar Balas and Claire Linton had two hits each in the win, with Alana Cress, Jayme Wells, and Kristen Pearn each recording two runs batted in.

Western got on the board in the second inning with a single runner crossing the plate, before adding three runs in the third and four more in the fourth to claim the 8-0 win.
