WATERLOO, Ont. – Two goals from
Braeden Gee helped the Western Mustangs earn a 3-3 draw with the Waterloo Warriors on Sunday afternoon at Warrior Field.
The draw gives Western a 7-4-4 record, and with one game remaining on the schedule the Mustangs have already guaranteed at least a fourth place finish in the OUA West standings. The Warriors move to 1-9-4 with the tie and occupy eighth place in the West.
Gee's two goals give the second-year striker five goals on the year and moves him into sole possession of first place on the Mustangs scoring leaderboard.
Patrick Melo provided Western's other goal on Sunday, scoring the first goal of his OUA career in the 74th minute.
Three different players provided the offence for Waterloo, with Nick Ribeiro, Christoph Bruckeder, and Florian Bruckeder all marking their names on the scoresheet.
The Warriors opened the scoring early on Sunday, with Ribeiro scoring in the opening minute to set the tone for the high-scoring contest. Western didn't wait long to respond, with Gee scoring his first goal of the game in the 14th minute to set the scoreboard at 1-1.
Just as the first half started with a quick goal, so too did the second with Gee finding the back of the Warriors net in the 46th minute to pull the Mustangs ahead 2-1.
That lead would be short-lived, however, with Christoph Bruckeder scoring seven minutes later to even the score once again.
Western regained the lead thanks to Melo's first OUA goal at the 74-minute mark before Florian Bruckeder scored in the 90th to send both teams away with a 3-3 draw.
Next up for the Mustangs is a contest against the Guelph Gryphons on Saturday, October 21. Game time for Western's regular season finale is set for 3:15 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
