Western falls to Guelph in regular season finale

GUELPH, Ont. – A balanced scoring attack led the Guelph Gryphons to a 56-0 win over the Western Mustangs on Friday night at Varsity Field.
 
Western now finishes with a 5-3 record at the end of the regular season, while Guelph improves to 7-1 heading into the playoffs.
 
John Sheridan led the scoring for the Gryphons with 16 points off eight converts, and was followed by two tries from Jordan Hofstra and Marcello Wainwright. Overall seven different Gryphons players marked their names on the scoresheet with tries in the win.
 
After neither team could break through for the first part of the opening half, the Gryphons got on the board in the 19th minute with a try from Hofstra, and followed that up with tries from John Sheridan, Kyle Lagasca, and Kolby Francis to take a 28-0 lead at halftime.
 
The Gryphons would go on to add another four tries and four converts in the second half to take a 56-0 win.
 
Western will now get set for the upcoming OUA playoffs, check back to westernmustangs.ca next week when the full playoff schedule is announced.
