Mustangs eliminated by Golden Hawks in OUA Quarter-finals

| By:
WATERLOO, Ont. – The Laurier Golden Hawks used a strong first half to defeat the Western Mustangs 36-12 in an OUA Quarter-final on Saturday afternoon at University Stadium.

The loss eliminates the Mustangs from the OUA playoffs, while the Golden Hawks will move on to next week's OUA Semifinals.

Aidan Foley and Luc Hansen-Boucher led the Mustangs scoring efforts on Saturday, with both recording a try, while William Sauder also added a conversion for the purple and white.

Nathan Roberts topped both sides of the score sheet with an 11-point performance, scoring one try and three converts in the win for Laurier. He was followed by Bastien Demas-Pandraud who tallied 10 points off two tries.

Laurier jumped out to an early lead on Saturday, with Demaus-Pandraud scoring in the fifth minute, which was quickly followed by another from Roberts a little under five minutes later to go up 12-0.

They'd extend that lead to 19-0 after a try from Andrew Quattrin with a little less than nine minutes to go in the first half before Foley responded with Western's first score of the day in the final minute of the frame.

The Mustangs would continue to cut into the Laurier lead in the opening minutes of the second half, with Hansen-Boucher providing the try combined with a successful convert by Sauder to close the gap to 19-12.

Unfortunately for the visitors the Golden Hawks would close things out from there, scoring three tries and one conversion to take a 36-12 win.
