Western edged out by York in the OUA Quarter-finals

TORONTO – A late goal by Joey Cicchillo lifted the York Lions to a 2-1 victory over the Western Mustangs in an OUA Quarter-final on Sunday night at Alumni Field.

With the loss, the Mustangs end the season with a combined 8-6-4 regular season and playoff record. The Lions will move on and will host next week's OUA Final Four.

Cicchillo's goal came in the 85th minute and proved to be the final goal of the evening, with Jonathan Lao providing the other goal for York. Cristian Devia scored for the Mustangs, hitting the back of the net midway through the second half.

Kody Thomson had a strong game in the Mustangs net, stopping eight shots in the loss, while Quillan Roberts got the win for York.

The Lions opened the scoring early on Sunday, with Lao sending the ball across the line on a penalty kick in the 11th minute.

Neither team was able to break through again until the second half when Devia tied things up for the Mustangs with a penalty kick goal of his own at the 72-minute mark.

The Lions then recorded the final goal of the evening, with Cicchillo scoring with just five minutes left on the clock to take a 2-1 win.
