Western remains undefeated with 3-1 win over Windsor

WINDSOR, Ont. – Goals from three different players powered the Western Mustangs to a 3-1 win over the Windsor Lancers on Wednesday night at Alumni Field.

The win keeps the team undefeated through five games and moves the Mustangs into a tie for first place in the OUA West Division with a 4-0-1 record, while Windsor drops to 2-4-1 on the year.

A trio of players provided the offence on Wednesday night, with Chuka Ononye, Christian Devia, and Braeden Gee each finding the back of the net in the win.

Outshooting their opponents 5-2 in the first half, the Mustangs opened the scoring early, with Ononye scoring in the 18th minute to record his first goal of the season.

Western didn't wait long before extending that lead as Devia netted his third goal of the campaign to put the Mustangs up 2-0 in the 20th minute.

The Mustangs would maintain their two-goal lead until the second half when Jamar Redhead cut the Western lead to 2-1 with a goal in the 63rd minute.

Gee responded for the Mustangs a little under 10 minutes later, tallying his first of the season on the way to a 3-1 win.

Western will now turn its attention to their second of three games this week, with the Waterloo Warriors set to come to London this Saturday, September 16. Game time is set for 3:15 p.m. at Mustang Field.
