Western sweeps weekend games over Guelph and McMaster

| By:
LONDON, Ont. – Battling both the extreme heat and their opponents, the Western Mustangs added another two wins to their record this past Saturday, defeating the Guelph Gryphons and McMaster Marauders at Mustang Field.

The two victories improve the Mustangs record to 5-1 on the year, good for first place in the OUA.

Western started the day facing off against the Guelph Gryphons, who were looking to avenge their 11-3 loss to the Mustangs from a week prior.

Calaina Brooke and Stephanie Orlando got the game off to a quick start, scoring two goals each in the first five minutes of play to give the Mustangs an early lead, eventually taking an 11-0 lead into halftime. Western would add another four goals in the second half to cruise to a 15-1 win.

Next up for the Mustangs were the McMaster Marauders in the first matchup of the season between the two teams.

Western once again got out to an early lead, with both Brooke and Amy Rawlings scoring two goals each in the first half to give the Mustangs a 7-1 lead at the break. Rawlings added one more goal in the second half to complete her second hat trick of the day on the way to the Mustangs taking a 12-2 victory.

The purple and white will be back in action on Saturday, September 30 in Guelph with three games on the schedule. First up will be the York Lions at 9:45 a.m., followed by a matchup with UOIT at 1:30 p.m., then a showdown with the Toronto Varsity Blues at 4:45 p.m.
