KINGSTON, Ont. – Two tries from Luc Hansen-Boucher and 13 points from Will Sauder helped the Western Mustangs defeat the RMC Paladins by a 38-31 score on Saturday afternoon at RMC Inner Field.

Western improves their record to 3-2 with the win and are in fifth place in the OUA standings, while RMC moves to 1-4 and is listed in seventh place.

Sauder led all players in scoring on Saturday, recording one try and four converts to top the scoresheet for both sides. Buchanan was next up for the Mustangs with two tries, while Michael Coldwells, Aidan Potts, and Greg McLean rounded out the scoring with one try each.

Cole Milne and Caleb Shaw paced the Paladins offence in the loss, recording two tries apiece. Nathan Torrie registered the home side's other try, while Danton Blair earned six points off three converts.

It was a hard-fought matchup right from the start, with Western taking an early 7-5 lead before going up 19-10 at halftime. The Mustangs would eventually increase their lead to 38-24, and the Paladins responded with a try and convert to close the gap as time wound down. Unfortunately for RMC those would be the final points of the day with Western taking a 38-31 win.

The Mustangs will return home for their next contest, with the purple and white set to take on the Trent Excalibur on Friday, October 6. Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Alumni Field.
