OSHAWA, Ont.—A 25-save performance from Briar Hughes helped the UOIT Ridgebacks end their five-game losing streak with a 2-0 win over the Western Mustangs on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Ice Centre.
Western now sits at 9-2-5-2 following their second loss of 2018, and they remain third in the OUA, three points behind Guelph. UOIT improved to 4-2-10-2 with the win, and occupy 10th in the standings.

The Ridgebacks came out strong in the opening minutes, outshooting Western six to one in the first half of the first period. Western had one of the best scoring chances in the opening frame with a three-on-one around the seven minute mark, however the first frame ended in a with neither team making their mark on the scoreboard.
That deadlock would be broken early in the next frame, as the Ridgebacks scored the game's first goal at 6:14 of the second period. Ball found the back of the net to break the tie, with help from Marissa Murphy and Mikaeli Cavell.
In the final period, Western displayed their aggressive penalty kill, and
Evra Levesque had perhaps the Mustangs best chance to score on a close shot while the Mustangs were shorthanded.
With just over five minutes left, Wilson wrapped around the net to score the Ridgebacks' insurance marker off of a funny bounce past Webster.
Western pulled Webster for an extra attacker with a little under three minutes left, but the Ridgebacks maintained their lead to claim a 2-0 win on home ice.
