1/23/2018 3:55:00 PM

Riding a six game win streak, the Mustangs will return from Thunder Bay ready to kick off a three game home stand starting this Thursday with a game against the Laurier Goldenhawks, before facing off against the Brock Badgers on Saturday.

After their two wins against the Lakehead Thunderwolves this past weekend, the Mustangs are now 10-9-2 and seventh in the OUA West, one-point back of the Thunderwolves for sixth.

The Mustangs are now riding a six game win streak that dates back to December, making them the hottest team in the OUA at the moment.

Western's offense shone this weekend, scoring 9 goals in two games. The team now has the third most goals for in the OUA West, behind only Guelph and Ryerson. Eight different Mustangs had goals over the two games with Anthony Stefano earning two goals in Sunday's game, including the overtime winner.

Rob Polesello added a goal of his own to maintain his position as the team's leading scorer. Polesello now has four goals and 20 points so far this season, closely followed by Trevor Warnaar with 12 goals and 19 points.

Luke Peressini continues to be the difference maker in the Mustangs season, stopping 40 of 42 shots in the second tilt against the Thunderwolves, while making 27 saves the night before. Peressini's save percentage continues to climb, resting at .944, making him on of the top goalies in the OUA.

Western vs Laurier – Thursday, January 25th, 7:00 p.m.

The Goldenhawks will pay a visit to Thompson Arena this Thursday, as they take on the Mustangs.

Laurier is currently tied for second in the OUA West along with York, with a 13-6-3 record. The Goldenhawks are currently riding a two-game losing streak, and will be looking to snap that as the playoffs quickly approach.

Brandon Robinson is leading points scorer for the Goldenhawks with seven goals and 20 points so far this season. Robinson currently has a goal and three assists in his last three games, and has managed to find himself on the scoresheet over half of his games played this season.

The Mustang powerplay will be in tough, as Laurier boasts one of the best penalty kills in the whole OUA, managing to keep their opposition to a mere 11 powerplay goals. As well, the Goldenhawks take the second-least penalties in the OUA, behind only the Mustangs, limiting the opportunities to their opponents powerplay.

The last time these two teams met was in November, with the Goldenhawks topping the Mustangs by a narrow score of 3-2.

This meeting will be the second of three between these two teams, with a rematch taking place a week later.

Western vs Brock – Saturday, January 27th, 7:00 p.m.

The Mustangs will be in tough again against the similarly skilled Brock Badgers, who are currently sitting four points ahead of the Mustangs in fifth in the OUA West, with an 11-7-4 record.

The Badgers are coming off of a convincing 3-0 loss at the hands of the York Lions and have struggled to build momentum since returning from break, going .500 over their last six games.

Brock has a well-balanced team, with eight players boasting 12 points or more, while only five have yet to register a point yet this season. Brandon O'Quinn is the Badgers leading points-scorer and goal scorer, with seven goals and 16 points through 22 games.

Clint Windsor has dominated the Badgers crease, playing in 21 of their 22 games and earning a league leading .932 save percentage along the way. His performance has led the badgers to a league-low 55 goals against, an impressive feat in such a high-flying league.

This will be the last of two meetings between this teams this regular season, with the Badgers coming out on top against the Mustangs 5-2 the last time these two teams met. However, the Mustangs earned a solid 7-3 win over the Badgers in pre-season action in September.
