The Mustangs will be looking to build on their three game win streak with a game against the York Lions on Saturday. With two wins this past weekend, the Mustangs have improved to 12-2-5-2 with three games left in the season, and are three points back of Queen's for first in the OUA.
Western impressive play as of late has earned them a nod in the national rankings, coming in at tenth in both last week's and this week's rankings.
Rachel Armstrong led the way for the forwards, scoring a hat trick in Sunday's 3-2 win against Windsor. Armstrong has eight goals and 10 points on the season, putting her in the top 10 in the league in goals. Two of her three goals came on the power play, giving her four power play goals on the season. April Clark.
Clark added to her point total with two assists in Sunday's game, giving her six assists and 17 points this season.
Amanda Pereira rounded out the offense, with two assists of her own on Sunday, as well as one in Friday's game. Pereira now has 12 assists and 16 points on the season.
Western vs York – Saturday, February 3rd at 7:00 p.m.
Western is set to take a road trip down the 401 to Toronto, where they will face off against the York Lions in their only game of the week. York currently sits outside the playoff race, with a 6-0-11-3 record, and are coming off of a tough loss to Queen's.
Kelsey McHolm is spearheading the York offense, with seven goals and 10 points through 20 games this season. McHolm has three goals in her last six games, and will be looking to continue on with her success into Saturday's matchup.
McHolm has also managed only 6 penalty minutes, an impressive feat as York leads the league in penalty minutes.
York will want to try and minimize their penalty minutes against the Mustangs this week, as the Western power play continues to dominate the league. Leading the OUA with a 21.3% success rate, while the York penalty kill hovers around middle of the pack at 85.3%.
This will be the first of two matchups this season between these two teams, with the second matchup coming only a week later. The last time these two teams played was last season, where the Mustangs claimed a 4-1 victory on the road. The purple and white managed two wins over the York Lions last year, outscoring them 9-2 over the course of the season series.Â
