Sudbury, ON – The Mustangs rode a pair of second period goals to a win over Laurentian to start a weekend away from home.
After a scoreless 1st period the Mustangs came out with a burst of energy in the 2nd.
Just 1:30 into the period Trevor Warnaar scored for his first goal of the season with Cordell James getting the lone assist.
The Mustangs kept the pressure going and were able to light the lamp again when Jonathan Laser scored at 7:08 from Spenser Cobbold & Trent Ouellette to make it 2-0.
The Voyageurs were able to respond before the end of the period to cut the Western lead to 2-1.
The two teams battled in the 3rd and Laurentian would pull their goalie late to try and get the equalizer but Trent Ouellette scored into an empty net to seal the Mustangs victory 3-1.
Luke Peresinni picks up the win for Western and goes to 2-2 on the season.
The Mustangs will continue their northern Ontario trip to North Bay tomorrow night when they take on Nippising. Puck drop is 7:30pm and can be seen on OUA.tv.
