Waterloo, ON—The Waterloo Warriors settled the score in overtime, securing a 3-2 win against the Mustangs Saturday afternoon at Columbia Ice Fields.

Shana Alexander and Evra Levesque marked Western's points and both scored for the first time this season.

Taytum Clairmont, Maryn Caragata, and Samantha Burbridge provided Waterloo's goals, the latter two scoring their firsts of the season.

The referees let the teams play in the first frame, recording no penalties and few whistles. The Warriors outshot Western ten to seven and were rewarded with two goals.

Ten minutes in, Clairmont netted the first of the match with help from teammates Emma Pye and Jessie Fennell.

With 15 seconds left, Caragata scored her team's second goal of the period. Sarah Rettinger secured a breakaway opportunity, but Mustang goaltender Carmen Lasis made an easy save of her shot. Caragata had been chasing her, and she was able to snatch the rebound and put it in the net.

The Mustangs came out of the locker room re-energized and were able to record 15 shots on Amanda Smith; the Warriors only tallied six against Lasis.

Their work paid off, and Shana Alexander scored four minutes into the second period. Anthea Lasis received a pass from her D-partner Beatrice Dufour at the top of the circles and fed it to Alexander who was positioned at the corner of the net.

Levesque tied it up for the Mustangs three minutes into the third period. After receiving a pass from Sarah Irwin, she shot the puck over Smith's shoulder.

Waterloo received the afternoon's first and only penalty, leaving them shorthanded with three minutes of play left during a tie game. Western couldn't capitalize on their power play, and the game moved to overtime.

After one minute of three-on-three, Burbridge picked up Brooklyn Sarnosvky's rebound, and backhanded it past Carmen Lasis, securing a 3-2 win for Waterloo.

Western are second in the OUA with 16 points and a record of 5-1-0-1. With the overtime win, Waterloo has 12 points and sits at 3-2-1-1.

The Mustangs are returning home to face the York Lions Friday at 7:00pm. Catch the game live at OUA.tv.
