GUELPH, Ont. – A late second half goal from the Gryphons proved to be the final one of the day as Western and Guelph played to a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
The draw is Western's second of the weekend after earning a 1-1 decision against the defending OUA Champion York Lions on Friday night. The Gryphons move to 1-0-1 on the year following a 2-0 win over Windsor in their season opener on Friday.
Luca Trivisonno scored his first goal of the regular season to provide the offence for Western, marking his name on the scoresheet midway through the first half. Calvin Witzell scored for the Gryphons, tying the game only moments before the final buzzer.
The Gryphons outshot the Mustangs 6-2 in the opening half, however it was Western who broke onto the board first as Trivisonno scored in the 32nd minute to give the Mustangs a 1-0 lead.
The second half proved to be a defensive battle with Guelph recording the lone shot of the frame. Witzell played the hero for the home side, scoring in added time to tie things up and set the final score at 1-1.
Western will be back in action this Friday when they welcome the McMaster Marauders to London for the Mustangs home opener. Game time for Friday's matchup is set for 3:15 p.m. at Mustangs Field.
