LONDON, Ont. - The Western men's soccer team fell 3-0 to a competitive Waterloo team in what was their second meeting of the season on Saturday afternoon in Waterloo, Ont.
With the loss, the Mustangs move to a 2-2-2 record on the season, as they sit in the middle of the pack in the OUA West division standings. The Warriors' victory earns them a 5-2-0 record on the season, placing them in second in the OUA West division standings.
Waterloo found themselves earning the early lead against the purple and white to begin the match, forcing Western to play from behind as Sebastian Guerrieri netted the first and only goal of the opening half to give the Warriors the 1-0 lead. Western struggled to create chances throughout the remainder of the half against the mobility of the Waterloo defence, as the Mustangs trudged into the second half facing the one goal deficit.
The Warriors would seal their victory throughout the second half and put a damper on the Mustangs' comeback attempt, scoring a pair of goals midway through the frame to break open the 3-0 lead. Neither side would have any legitimate scoring opportunities following the two goals, as Western went on to take the 3-0 shutout loss.
The Mustangs will be looking to bounce back tomorrow, September 16, where they will be back on Mustangs Field to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks in what will be their first meeting of the season. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:15 P.M. EST.
