MUSTANGS BOUNCE BACK WITH TWO BIG WINS

9/18/2018 11:55:00 AM

GUELPH, Ont. - The Mustangs women's lacrosse team came away with two wins in Guelph this Sunday, coming out on top 9-1 against the McMaster Marauders, before defeating the Brock Badgers 14-1.

To start off the day, the Mustangs had a strong defensive game against the Marauders, limiting their opponents to only a handful of shots, and one goal against. Western also managed to win the small battles, winning a majority of the ground balls and draw controls, which contributed to the teams success.

The Mustangs picked up the offense against the Badgers, hitting the double digits in goals for for the first time this season. A strong transition game hemmed the Badgers into their own zone, and limited the time they were able to spend on attack. The Mustangs were quick to capitalise on Brock's mistakes, while limiting their own mental errors throughout the course of the contest.

Fawn Porter and Katy De Snoo led the way throughout the day for the Mustangs, while Erin Heidecker and Alexia Zolis each earned their first goals in purple and white.

The two wins put the Mustangs at 2-2 on the season, after dropping their season openers to the Trent Excalibur and the Queen's Gaels in Kingston the prior weekend.

The Mustangs are looking to keep their momentum rolling as they look ahead to next weekend, when they will travel to Waterloo to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks and Guelph Gryphons, who are seated second and third in the OUA, respectively.
