WATERLOO, Ont. - The Mustangs women's lacrosse team extended their winning streak to four games, with two wins over the Laurier Golden Hawks and the Guelph Gryphons this Sunday in Waterloo.
The team earned a strong 12-8 win over the Golden Hawks to start off the day, handing the second-place team their first loss of the season.
The Mustangs got on the scoreboard first, notching the first goal of the game at the two-minute marker, before the Hawks tied it up a few minutes later. The teams exchanged points throughout the first 30 minutes of the game and went into halftime tied 4-4. The Golden Hawks jumped out to an early 6-4 lead to start the second frame, before the Mustangs went on a seven-goal run that saw them reclaim the lead and win the game.
Fawn Porter played a key role in the win, notching five goals and two assists, all of which came in the Mustangs second-half offensive rush. Katy De Snoo added two goals and six assists of her own to round out the offense.
Next, the Mustangs took on the Gryphons, in a lopsided 11-2 victory, for the teams fourth victory of the season.
The Mustangs got off to a quick start, getting on the game sheet a minute and a half into the game, and quickly building up a 6-0 lead before the Gryphons were able to register their first goal, 20 minutes into the game. The Mustangs went into half up 8-2, where the team locked it down defensively, allowing no goals against the second half of play, and adding three more goals for the final score.
De Snoo led the offense for the Mustangs once again, with four goals and an assist, finishing the day with six goals and seven assists for 13 points. First years Jordan Rozich and Kenzie Deleary each earned their first OUA goals in the win, with Rozich adding a second goal later in the game as well.
