Windsor, ON – The Mustangs dropped their 2019-20 season opener on the road to Windsor Wednesday night.
Western came out with a hot start, taking a 6-0 lead just over a minute and a half into the game. The Lancers would then respond by evening the game at 10 at the 6-minute mark of the quarter. Both sides traded opportunities with Windsor finishing out the frame up 23-19.
The game stayed close in the second until Windsor went on a 7-0 run that saw them take a 41-32 lead. Windsor would finish out the half maintaining a ten-point lead.
In the third the Lancers kept their pressure doing and doubled up the Mustangs 24-12 in the quarter up 73-51.
Western tried to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter but the Windsor offensive power was too much.
Rachel Ledgley led the Mustangs on to scoreboard with 13 points, while Maddy Horst added 12 of her own.
Next up for the Mustangs is their home opener on Saturday night against Waterloo. The game will also be the annual Shoot For the Cure game for breast cancer awareness. Tip-off is set for 6:00pm. Western students get free admission when they present their Western ONECard at the box office.
