Waterloo, ON – The Mustangs overpowered the Waterloo Warriors for a 2-1 win in game 2 and the series sweep on Saturday afternoon.
All the games scoring came in the second period.
Waterloo scored on the powerplay just 1:24 into the 2
nd period. Taytum Clairmont got a seeing eye shot from the blueline through traffic and into the Western net, that made it 1-0 Warriors.
Just over 2 minutes later the Mustangs would respond.
Rachel Armstrong skated the puck from her own end into the attacking zone and drove to the net, the puck would be picked up by
Shailyn Waites and shoveled into the net to tie the game at 1-1.
Later in the 2
nd the Mustangs would extend the lead,
Anthea Lasis wristed the puck towards the Waterloo goal and it would be deflected by
Sydnee Baker and the Mustangs took a 2-1 lead into the dressing room after 40 minutes.
In the third period Western kept the offensive pressure strong and limited the Warriors to only 1 shot on goal even with just under 2 minutes of time when Waterloo had an extra attacker.
The Mustangs out shot Waterloo 35-12 in the game.
Carmen Lasis picks up the win for Western having to only make 11 saves in the contest.
Western now awaits the winner of the Nipissing & Toronto series to find out their opponent for the 2
nd round.
