St. Catharines, ON – Western was able to break the 3-2 trend of the playoffs by dropping a 5-0 win on the Brock Badgers in game 3 of the OUA West Semi-Final on Sunday night.
The Mustangs would get the offence going in this one. Western would move the puck around the top of the offensive zone on the powerplay and then
Kenny Huether would fire the puck towards the Badgers net, Brock's Logan Thompson made the save but left a juicy rebound right in the crease and
Trevor Warnaar was on the door step to drive it into the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead.
Western would continue the pressure in the 2
nd period. Just 2:57 into the period the Badgers would cough up the puck behind their own net,
Mitchell Brooks would pick up the puck and throw it across the front of the net and
Kolten Olynek who wristed it in to extend the lead to 2-0.
Later in the period the Mustangs would take a commanding hold on the game with two more goals. First it was
Spenser Cobbold sending a shot on the Brock goal which would be dug out by
Kyle Petit who would put the Mustangs up 3-0 at 15:55 of the 2
nd.
Just over a minute and a half later the purple and white would strike again.
Cordell James kept up a hard battle in the corner of the offensive zone, after chipping it along the wall
Anthony Stefano would drop the puck to
Ethan Szypula who drove to the front of the net and got two shots on net and would put Western up 4-0 going into the 2
nd intermission.
In the third period Western would keep the foot on the pedal. The Mustangs would add 3 more goals including markers from Anthony Stefano, Cordell James & Kenny Huether. Brock would able to find the back of the net but it was too little too late.
Luke Peressini made 31 saves on the night as the Mustangs outshot Brock 34-32.
