Toronto, ON – After being shut-out in Game 1 the Mustangs were able to crack the Toronto net three times to take game two over the Varsity Blues.
Western would spread out the offence on the night with three different goal scorers.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first period. Western out shot the Varsity Blues 9-8 but both goaltenders made some solid saves.
The Mustangs would finally crack the armour of Toronto goaltender Erica Fryer in the second period.
Emma Suitor fired a wrist shot top corner which would handcuff the Varsity Blues goaltender and give Western their first lead of the series.
The Mustangs again topped Toronto in the shot column in the second 5-2.
Early in the third period Western was able to extend that lead.
Shailyn Waites would take the puck along the wall in the offensive zone and make a snap pass out front to
Rachel Armstrong who would one time the puck into the Varsity Blues net to make it 2-0 Western.
The Mustangs momentum would continue in the third as
Evra Levesque skated in on the breakaway and slid a backhand between the five-hole to take a 3-0 lead.
Toronto would get on the board with just over four minutes left in the third period from Jessica Robichaud but it wasn't enough.
Carmen Lasis faced 18 shots in the win, Fryer would see 17 shots towards her cage.
These two teams won't have to wait long to decide the series as game 3 of the series goes tomorrow at 2:30pm at Thompson Arena. Tickets can be found at https://westernmustangstickets.universitytickets.com/w/default.aspx.
