Pair of wins highlight the weekend for the Mustangs

London, ON - Fresh off a silver medal at the Canadian University National Championships in Montreal this summer, the Western Varsity Men's Tennis team took to the courts against York University and McMaster University on Saturday, September 14 and Sunday, September 15 at the Western Tennis Centre.
 
On Saturday against York, the Mustangs started off strong in doubles – taking the doubles point by 2 matches to 1 – with the Day brothers, Alex and Andrew, winning their match 8-3, while Connor Smith teamed up with the men's captain, Mark Jensen, to win 8-2.
 
After the doubles finished, and the singles matches of the day commenced, and Western continued its momentum over York as Matt Oliver, Matthew Erdman, Ron Singer, and Connor Smith all winning their matches to go up 5-0 over York.
 
York did not go down without a fight as their #1 singles player defeated Western's Alex Day in 3 sets and their #3 singles players – who sprained his ankle in a third set-tie breaker - won over Mark Jensen with Western winning the match 5 matches to 2 matches.
 
The following day, Western hosted McMaster in the second tie of the weekend
 
Team veteran Brent Moffatt teamed up with Alex Day to win the first doubles match of the day 8-0.
 
McMaster did not go down without a fight, as they clinched one of the three doubles matches in a tightly contested tie breaker 8-7 against two freshmen: Eric Zhang and Christian Krustev. As McMaster continued to fight back, Western solidified the doubles point to go up 1-0 in the tie as Alden Eakins and Victor Guziak won their doubles match 8-4.
 
The Mustangs have added two newly minted freshmen – Ethan Milavsky and Wilson Boyle – to the team. Both Ethan and Wilson helped the Mustangs edge closer to victory as they both won their matches against York's #4 and #5 players respectively. 
 
As the day came to an end, the men's tennis team clinched victory over McMaster 7-0 in the tie.
 
Next up for the Mustangs: Brock University on September 21 in St. Catharines and University of Toronto on September 22 at the Western Tennis Centre.
